Bluebird Class
Bluebird class is a class of Y1 and Y2 children who experience a range of learning difficulties. We have discrete literacy lessons based on a story book linked to our topic. These include opportunities for speaking and listening, early learning, phonics, reading and writing skills. We also have discrete maths lessons which include early learning, number, shape, measure and problem solving activities.
Other areas of learning are addressed through a topic approach. Topics change each term and provide opportunities for learning in science, history, geography, computing, art and music. Swimming and PE take place weekly. The children also participate in weekly library sessions and choose a book to take home. In addition, the children have weekly sessions in the soft play room and enjoy sessions in the Sensory Theatre. PSHE is taught through a weekly Circle Time session.
All the children in Bluebird class have regular input from the speech and language therapy team and, depending on their individual needs, from the occupational and physio therapists.
Throughout, emphasis is placed on developing the children’s personal and social, self-help and independence, and physical skills.
