Robin class is currently made up of eight Year 5 and 6 children who experience complex learning difficulties. Many of the children have an autistic spectrum disorder. The class is supported by one teacher and six learning support assistants. The curriculum is broad and balanced and differentiated to meet every child’s individual needs. All the children in the class experience sensory processing difficulties and the curriculum is planned and delivered through a holistic approach in order to meet these needs. The class teacher works in conjunction with the speech and language therapist and the occupational therapist to maximize access to the curriculum. The children in Robin class access a range of activities throughout the school week. For example, swimming, soft play, library, ICT, PE, rebound, music, art, sensory theatre, sensory dark room and a range of fine motor activity sessions.
