Wagtail

Wagtail Class

Wagtail Class is one of the three Early Years classes. Wagtail is a class of eight children ranging from 2 to 5 years of age who experience a range of complex learning difficulties, often with an additional physical disability. The children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which is modified to meet their needs. The curriculum is planned jointly with input from the Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists as appropriate.

The children are offered a mixture of adult-led structured play and child-initiated play, where they are encouraged to make choices about what they would like to do. Additionally they have paired work sessions where early English and maths skills are taught. Children also have regular opportunities to work on their speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy programmes.

We have a large outdoor area which is used for child-initiated and adult-led play and has a range of equipment designed to encourage gross motor development, imaginative play and social skills.

Children in early years have access to swimming, PE and soft play on a weekly basis.
